2026 Mentorship Program Applications

Application Process and Matching of Mentor Pairs

  1. Apply for the program as a Mentor (closed for mentee applications for 2025).
  2. Attend a matching interview, tentatively scheduled from January 18- 28, 2026. This is an opportunity for the committee to properly match mentors with mentees. Mentor pairs will be matched based on their experience, interests, and expectations for the mentorship.
  3. Attend the kick off meeting, tentatively scheduled February 11, where you will meet your mentor, and learn more about the 2026 Mentorship Program from the Committee.
  4. The Mentor Program is 1 year long beginning with the kick off meeting in February and ending in December 2026.

Program Goals

  • To provide Mentees a format for understanding the critical aspects of municipal governance, operations and administration from experienced Mentors.
  • To pass on the knowledge, skills and best practices from experienced Mentors to Mentees looking to enhance their professional development.
  • To provide a safe learning and sharing environment for both the Mentor and the Mentee.
  • To engage the next generation of leaders through curated guidance from experienced Mentors.

Eligibility

Participation in the program begins with the perspective Mentors and Mentees application to the program. There is no fee to enroll in the 2026 Mentorship Program if you are an active member of MMASC or a student member. All Mentors should be a Full member and have a minimum of three years working with a public agency and related administrative experience. Mentees should be interested in or currently working at a public agency.

Expectations

  • Participants must meet or communicate regularly, at least once a month; this may take place in person, via zoom, or at a Region or Signature Event.
  • Mentees are encouraged to participate in their local region or attend signature events. The Mentorship Committee will have a table set up at each Signature Event where mentors and mentees can come together.
  • Mentees are encouraged to participate in MMASC planning committees for signature events or leadership opportunities as available.

The Mentor is a coach and counselor, providing information, support, feedback, connection, and ideas. The program is a tool for the mentee to create their own success.
